shame on you, California

Photobucket

Today, the CA Supreme Court announced their decision to uphold the horrible initiative that is Proposition 8. I have never in my life been more embarrassed to be from California. Shame on the individuals for voting for this proposition based on pure hatred and, let's face it, pure ignorance; and shame on the CA supreme court for not realizing that this should have been invalidated. I pity the people who think they are "protecting marriage" but excluding much of the population who just want to marry the people they love. Equal rights people -- ever heard of it? Separate is NOT equal. It's 2009... I can't believe this is even up for discussion.

Seriously, f&@* you, California.

I think it's time to move to another state... I hear Iowa is lovely...

Below, I have pasted in an email that I sent around to my friends and family right before the Nov. 4th election. It caused some drama before, but I feel it's relevant and helps to prove a point-- and frankly I am confident that almost all of our friends and family feel this same way... This is our personal (and liberal!) blog, so I think it's plenty appropriate! If you don't agree... you probably shouldn't read on ;)

10 Reasons Why Gay Marriage is Wrong:

1) Being gay is not natural.
Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay.
The same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior.
People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all.
Women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed.
The sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children.
Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children...
Since straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion.
In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home.
That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society...
We could never adapt to new social norms, just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Yeah, gay marriage is really harmful. Please.

THINK BLUE!

Photobucket

Friday night we went to a Dodger game with my dad & Sandy-- they were playing the Angels in game 1 of a 3 game series. It was a fun game to watch, but also frustrating... we left so many men on base and we lost! Oh well... it was fireworks night so we stayed to watch them and had a fun night overall!
(I'm trying to teach myself photoshop as I get more into photography, so I had some fun with these pictures!)

we've arrived

normally when you're at a Dodger game, you eat stadium food - Sandy went an alternate route.
I'm all for veggies...

but broccoli is no substitute for classic Dodger food!

Palm Desert Extravaganza!

Photobucket

My best friend Jennie and her bf Scott invited us to Palm Desert a few weeks ago! Scott's family owns a vacation home there, so it was a pretty inexpensive trip! ;) (Aside from our rather expensive taste in food...) We had a great time and really needed the relaxation... we spent much of the weekend laying out by the (warm) pool.
